Olympic lifts are AMAZING but for reasons you don’t normally expect - most coaches don’t understand this and why these lifts are 🔥 for contact athletes

Intro topic is a discussion on why Olympic lifts are amazing for contact athletes & why you should stop listening to “meme coaches”.

Notes on things I forgot to mention (no script):

• single leg squats / split squats are excellent for takedowns - you will be able to focus on driving force through a single leg at a time. This is a slightly different skill and getting strong on a Bulgarian split squat will immediately pay dividends that you can notice on the first session.

• for wrist care - upper body plyometrics are also really important so the wrists can get used to impact. Progress very slowly and start with light plyo pushups and rhythm pops on your hands and/or fists. This can be done on a wall even for those who are very sensitive for overweight. You don’t want ultra high impact - just some impact.

• Many “asymmetry” issues in lifting is actually just poor form and/or motor control. You can even lift with slightly asymmetrical form - I squat with my right foot turned more outward + 1.5 inches back - but it’s worth assessing if your motor control/setup is the issue. Slow eccentrics (4-6 seconds) & paused sets can help.
