I spent the last 13 years training in combat sports and other athletics as well as learning optimal strategies for improving overall health, and physical ability in terms of strength, speed, durability, metabolic health, and longevity.
Over an amateur kickboxing career and college sports I learned a lot about how physical development and performance improvement is done without gimmicks, and with real measurable metrics for improvement. Too many fitness gurus today write like they know how to train for anything besides muscle gain in a bodybuilder style. (They don’t) The reality is that training the body to become better at accomplishing tasks is a little more than just growing a muscle. Muscle work absolutely has its place and I recommend almost everyone to want to gain and maintain muscle throughout their lives, but the body is more than just meat.
Everything we do from dunking a basketball to climbing stairs is just using our bodies to accomplish a physical goal. In order to increase your ability to accomplish physical tasks you need to learn how to stimulate your body to adapt and increase its capacity as an organism. You can do this at any age - as long as you are alive, you can adapt. Years of aches and pains, failure to reach goals you worked hard for, being less capable than you want to be, and coming up short when there was a way to do things better, there is always a solution. I have spent most of my life obsessing over how to get myself and my teammates / clients to superhero levels of ability, and I am making this newsletter because I think I have found a lot of information that is worth providing to the average person who wants to be more than average.
If you have chronic health or joint pain issues, you are weak and need to get stronger, you are and/or have always been slow on the court with your friends or you or a family member might not have the ability to land a sports scholarship, you are missing the knowledge that top level performers have been given access too. Plenty of guys skate by on talent, but it comes crashing down after 15 years without quality training. Plenty more guys try hard but didn’t “quite have the makings of an all-star”. Even more folks just want to retain or regain their ability to play sports, go on trips, or even move your house furniture on your own. With myself and my pupils I have changed this by learning how to improve the bodies ability to produce outputs in all the dynamic ways it can. You need more than just muscular hardware, but creating the software to help run the machine faster and more efficiently.
Unfortunately I think a lot of people struggle due to misinformation regarding fitness from the current western state of marketing fads and decades of bullshit that has taken us away from both old and new truly effective methods of improving a human body.
