Hey everyone,
Regular Substack essay is coming out this week but another thing we are going to release are video/audio formats that are open to discussion + questions.
We are going to cover particular topics while also answering questions from subscribers.
We would appreciate any questions of any kind related to training, fitness, health, martial arts & fighting and you can comment them below. Feel free to ask anything you want.
I will try to answer all of them this week in audio format.
Thank you.
45.
- Generally long torso with short legs.
- Swimming / football as a kid
- University rower - back issues started then with herniation
- Highly competitive Ironman triathlete in mid to late 20's.
- Early 30's started to feel back issue inflame to point that couldn't walk anymore (not for lack of rehab effort! Maybe just the "wrong" type of rehab). Opted for surgery as the disc had fully blown and nerve was fully impinged.
- FAI discussion. I think part of my back issues relate to the interaction between the pelvis and lower back - and Hip impingement is partly a symptom - perhaps a combination of pelvis alignment and lower back weak due to many reasons (psoas had always been an issue). So have been trying to fix it from the hip side as well as strengthen the back at the same time. I've had pretty good success as the hip was definitely jammed - and I've identified range of motion and imbalances in hip strength that I had never considered. Thanks for considering!
Love the passion and enthusiasm you bring. I'm trying to get back to a position where I can train the way you suggest...I appreciate your position on back surgeries, etc - but reality is that I've had two microdiscectomies (I'm not overweight) and what I think is a minor form of FAI. So the question is - with the style of training you recommend...how do I get from my current state of undertrained - back to the ability to handle all of the movements your workouts prescribe? Right now it feels a bridge too far. Thanks very much!
